PRESS CONFERENCE ON POWER ROTATION BY CONCERNED SOUTHERN TARABA PDP MEMBERS AT PRESS CENTER, JALINGO, ON 8th MARCH 2022.
Ladies and gentlemen of the press.
We are here as indigenes of Taraba state under the umbrella of Concerned Southern Taraba PDP members. Our aim of this press conference is to amplify our voice on calls for power rotation.
As the 2023 general elections approaches, we feel it is necessary to call on Taraba state governor, His Excellency, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku, the state PDP led by Lt.Col. Agbu Kefas (RTD) and all critical stakeholders in the party to support power shift to the northern senatorial zone.
In our capacity as the Concerned Southern Taraba PDP members, we hereby want to uphold to the sanctity of equity and fair distribution of power amongst the three senatorial zones in the state.
Undoubtedly, We, the PDP members in southern Taraba have subscribed to the theory of power rotation since 1999, where previous antecedents arising from the party's calculations always end up in the interest of power rotation, purposely to ensure that every zone is given a sense of belonging.
It will interest you to know that this strategy has indeed solved issues of marginalization even in the grassroots as micro-zoning of political position has ushered in equal representation through an acceptable power sharing formula that has nipped issues of tribal or religious suspicion in the bud, bearing in mind our ethnic and religious diversities.
Ladies and gentlemen, To futher convince you that God is a God of equity and supports justice and fair play, any time when we try to use human logic to thwart or go against the power shift formula, God in His infinite power always intervene and return power to the appropriate zone through unforseen circumstances -- And this development of power rotation has no doubt yielded huge electoral returns for the PDP with serial victories in the polls across the state during general elections since the advent of democracy in 1999.
Over the years, the party graciously but with utmost wisdom has given credence to zoning and rotation of power which first produced Rev. Jolly T. Nyame from the Northern zone, Pharm. Danbaba Suntai from the Central zone, and now the present governor, Arc Darius Ishaku who hails from the Southern zone respectively.
Gov Ishaku took over from the central zone on behalf of the southern zone against all odds in spite of the political heavy weight of H.E Garba Umar UTC and his popularity in 2014 and 2015, where God as earlier mentioned re-directed power to the right place.
Of a note, Tarabans have accepted this power rotation model, hence regular turn out of votes for PDP in the gubernatorial election because the formula of zoning anchored by the party is the only acceptable way that gives every zone a sense of belonging through onerous participation in politics without fear of being sidelined or marginalized.
To this end, We, the Concerned Southern Taraba PDP members once again say it will be fair and honest that the power rotation be maintained and ensure that it goes to the appropriate quarter, which is the northern zone.
Least to say, the PDP stakeholders should not hurriedly forget the massive support the Northern zone gave our zone through our own Gov Darius Ishaku, the incumbent governor in 2015 and 2019 against late Sen Aisha J. Alhassan and H.E Sani Danladi, their daughter and son, just to ensure that justice and fair play was enthroned in our democratic arrangements.
We are mindful of the consequences of jettisoning the power rotation which may result to the two zones, that is the North and Central, ganging up against us through alliance that will starve us of further opportunity to govern Taraba state.
We are also appealing to all southern Taraba politicians, especially those with gubernatorial ambition to step down their inordinate quest that will amount to endangering our zone and next generation.
We are saying NO to some of our leaders who now want to remove the ladder that they've used to climb up through their selfish quest in order to rob the chances of the upcoming younger generation in taking their places in politics.
We sincerely hope and wish that His Excellency, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku who is a peace loving man amongst all critical stakeholders of PDP Taraba, both at home and in diaspora, will support this for the consolidation of PDP and its winning records come 2023 and beyond.
In view of the above, We also want to also appeal to His Excellency, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku, the party leadership under the chairmanship of Lt.Col. Agbu Kefas(RTD) and all stakeholders that this power shift policy should be strengthened in all the three senatorial zones where seats of federal house of representatives, state houses of assembly, chairmen of local governments and development areas as well as nomination of political office appointments and even councillors should be evenly distributed in the spirit of equity so as to carry ethnic group along-- As such will lead to the sustainability of peace and development in the state and as well further guarantee the winning formula of PDP from top to down.
We are also calling on the PDP in the state to suspend any desperate politician that goes against the party's zoning policy for the ridigity of the party in the aspect of discipline to ensure swift running of its affairs.
